The Greater Way Forward - Update on COVID-19 and Convention Center Reopening

Greater Tacoma Convention Center Achieves GBAC STAR™ Accreditation

Tacoma Venues & Events announced that it has achieved Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ accreditation, the venue industry’s premier outbreak prevention, response and recovery certification. Under the guidance of GBAC, a division of the Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association (ISSA), the Tacoma Dome and Greater Tacoma Convention Center have adopted the most stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention, aligning with venues across North America and the world in commitment to the highest safety and cleaning standards.

Following an extremely thorough assessment of the facilities’ readiness for biorisk situations, multiple procedures and practices have been confirmed and established with GBAC’s expert-led guidance. The program certifies that the Tacoma Dome and Greater Tacoma Convention Center have demonstrated compliance with the program’s 20 core elements ranging from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment, emergency preparedness and response measures.

“Achieving GBAC accreditation demonstrates and affirms our deep commitment to the health and safety of our guests as one of many protocols undergoing implementation,” stated Tacoma Venues & Events Director Kim Bedier. “Our guests and clients can have every confidence that their safety is always at the forefront of everything we do, and we look forward to the time when we can enthusiastically welcome everyone back."

The Tacoma Venues & Events team are transforming the guest and client experience including flexible booking policies, upgrades for cleaner air, food & beverage service modifications, and mobile pay parking at the Convention Center.
