Greater Tacoma Convention Center Hotel Coming Soon

Tacoma features 400 hotel rooms within walking distance of the Convention Center, with options ranging from business class to luxury. And multi-day events at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center are about to get even better.

In 2020, this number will shoot past 700 when we complete the Tacoma Convention Center Hotel, a four-star, 304-room, Marriott luxury hotel directly connected to our building. Already considered 2018’s #1 destination in the country for conventions up to 1,000 attendees, Tacoma will have even more to offer when this hotel is complete.

Greater Tacoma Convention Center Hotel Coming Soon

The 23-story Convention Center Hotel will do much more than add luxury hotel rooms to Tacoma’s downtown core.

The brand new hotel will connect to GTCC on the ballroom level with a grand promenade that features large glass windows and views of Mt. Rainier. It will also add amenities and more meeting space to the Convention Center complex.

  • Approximately 9,000 square feet of new event space
  • A 10,000 square feet ballroom that can be divided into three spaces
  • A sixth-floor garden terrace with views of the City and waterfront
  • Restaurant, lounge areas, ground floor retail, pool, fitness center, Presidential suites, and more

  • Groundbreaking ceremony: August 8, 2017
  • Demolition start: Late Summer 2017
  • Crane Arrival and Assembly: Late Fall 2017
  • Six Floor Podium Core and Shell Construction: Late Fall 2017-Late Summer 2018
  • Tower Core, Decks, Structural Steel, and Roof: Late Summer 2018-Spring 2019

Construction information

  • Developer: Yareton Investment & Management 
  • General Contractor: Absher Construction Company
  • Structural Engineer: PCS Structural Solutions
  • Cost: $85 million dollar hotel with no City of Tacoma subsidy involved
  • Normal construction hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM
  • High noise activities will be coordinated with the Convention Center as well as the surrounding neighbors
  • Construction vehicle traffic will be managed to reduce impact.

Economic impact

  • The hotel will employ 160 full-time hospitality and sales jobs 
  • Over 1,000 jobs will be generated during the estimated 3 year construction period with as many as 200 workers on the site at one time
  • Absher Construction will promote local hiring through the City of Tacoma’s Small Business Enterprise (SBE) Program and Local Employment Apprenticeship Program (LEAP). Total apprenticeship utilization is expected to exceed 15%.
  • Estimated annual property taxes $280,200 to the City with a total of $1.43 million to all taxing jurisdictions 
  • Additional revenue to B&O, sales, utility, and hotel-motel taxes that will be reinvested into Tacoma and Pierce County
